Ultrasound

Ultrasound used sound to give us an image of soft tissue mostly. A sound wave from the transducer bounces (echoes) off the tissue and an image is generated based on what the sound waves are encountering. We can read this image and use it to make a diagnosis.

Ultrasound is very useful for:

  • Lower limb lameness (Assessing any changes in the tendons and ligaments of the lower limb)
  • Facet arthritis of the neck and back
  • Muscle tears and damage
  • Colic
  • Internal structures: Ovaries, Intestines, Liver, Lungs
